BRITTEN BAGS LATE PENALTY DECIDER

Sunday 2009:
Cornwall League Cup 1st Round - Dobwalls 1-2 Penzance

(Britten 2, 1 pen)

Penzance travelled to Dobwalls for the first time on Sunday, for a Cornwall League St.Austell Trophies Cup 1st Round tie. Despite having only the bare eleven and not playing their best football, the Magpies booked their quarter-final berth with a 2-1 victory.
Candice Britten scored the only goal of the first half, with a clinical finish. Dobwalls started the second half brightly and were rewarded when Olivia Philp bundled the ball across the line following a good cross from the right. Dobwalls had the best of the play for a period after that, but again found it difficult to convert any of the chances that came their way. Penzance seemed to get more possession towards the end of the match and it was they who were pressing when an 88th minute penalty decision came. An effort from Leanne Harvey struck an arm in the box and Britten stepped up to net her second goal of the day.
Penzance are away again this Sunday, taking on St.Blazey in a Cornwall Division 1 fixture at Blaise Park, kick-off 2.30pm.
The Magpies have been drawn against Sussex side Maresfield Village in the 1st Round of the Lucozade Sport Performance League Cup virtual competition.
