MARAZION FRUSTRATE MAGPIES

Thursday April 15th: Cornwall League Division 1 - Penzance 0-1 Marazion

An early goal by Carly Jacka was enough to give Marazion a 1-0 at Penzance, with plenty of pressure from the home side failing to result in an equaliser for their best crowd of the season.
Jacka forced her way into the box on 2 minutes and fired past Grace Rudlin. Jo Barker had already having missed a chance for the visitors, when one-on-one with the keeper and was again off-target soon after.
Following good play by Dawn Bateman, Alix Lavertu's drive was blocked at the expense of a corner and from a Kat Redd cross, Sorcha Dean's glancing header went wide of the far post, with the goal wide open.
Nicki Ellis played a perfect pass through from Lavertu but she shot across the face of the visitors' goal. Emma Robinson escaped after fumbling Nicki Ellis's high cross, while Jezz Forbes went close for Marazion. Tyler Matthews' free-kick put Candice Britten through on goal but Robinson did well to get behind the shot and she denied the same player when turning a drive round the post.
In the second-half, Britten hooked just over from an Aimiee Ellis pass and also pulled a shot wide after a strong run,. Britten put Dean through put the post came to Marazion's rescue and Katy Whittaker whipped two efforts just over the bar. Rudlin took a good catch from a Forbes shot and the Magpies' last chance came when Nicki Ellis's shot from range took a high bounce and Robinson managed to tip it over.
The frustrating defeat leaves Penzance needing a point or two from their last two games to take the Cornwall League runners-up spot.
